I know it’s been a while, and I am sorry for my absence. I promise to do better in the future. December got away from me, and before I knew it, we were halfway through January! So let’s catch up.
I read three novels in December and started a fourth, in addition to reading six mangas. I know I didn’t really read much in December, but with the holidays, can you blame me? The novels I read were:
- Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
- 5 ★★★★★
- This book was everything I wanted it to be and then some. I can understand some of the anger and disappointment some fans had with the ending, but I found it to be perfection. Even if it did destroy me emotionally. I am so ready for the next book (just as soon as she writes it).
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
- 5 ★★★★★
- This was a reread for me. I read it the first time in 2020, but with House of Shadow and Flame coming out on January 30, I figured it was a good time to go back through the Maas-verse. I still loved this story, but it definitely doesn’t entice me the way Cresent City does. That said, I am a SJM fan for life.
- The Company of Fiends by Kathryn Moon
- 3.5 ★★★★
- This is just… It’s monster porn; there is no other word for it. Smut is by far my guiltiest pleasure. It has a plot outside the sex, but there is definitely more sex than anything else in the story. Am I ashamed that I enjoyed it? Not even a little.
I started A Court of Mist and Fury towards the end of December and finished it on January 6. I won’t lie; this is my first time going through the rest of the series. I picked up Cresent City shortly after I read ACOTAR and fell in love with its world, and just never looked back. When January is over, I’ll be sure to include my reviews for all the ACOTAR books I finish.
And in the spirit of January, I have bookish goals and resolutions to share with you! This year I am keeping a bookish journaling planner. It has pages for reviews, challenges, page trackers, and hauls! On top of that, it is stunning. I am still working on all my goals for the year, but the ones I have come up with so far are:
- Read more than I buy
- Read the first book/manga/light novel before I buy the sequel
- Read the ARCs I bring home BEFORE the official finished book comes out
- Read more non-fiction
- Read to my daughter before bed every night
- Read my husband’s favorite book
- Try to listen to more audiobooks
- Finish 110 novels
What do you think of my goals? What are your bookish resolutions? Did you meet your goals for 2023? I can’t wait to hear about it.
Until the next page,
Dani
