Is it really April already? Could time slow down, just for a moment? No? Oh, well, I guess that is fair. March was tame compared to February, with its attempts to murder me via the flu. No horrid illnesses to speak of. But I did start a new job, so I have been busy. Even with all my time taken up with working, bleh, I did manage to finish a few books. Three to be exact.
My “why did it take me this long to read this” read: A Court of Wings and Ruin

Once I finally started reading this again this month, I remembered all the reasons I love SJM. I devoured the last 400 pages in a few hours and had emotions all over the place. I was not prepared to have all those feelings sitting in the middle of my work breakroom. Not being a sniffling, snotty mess was the hardest thing I did that day because… The feels! Now, that is not to say that this book was perfect because it isn’t. It has one of those common issues that I have learned to just ignore when I come across them. This series has a war in it. A whole clashing army, blood and gore, death, swords, and magic, war. And it is over in maybe 300 pages. No war is over that quickly, magical or not. But that was really my only complaint with the whole thing. I am looking forward to A Court of Frost and Starlight and A Court of Silver Flames, but those are on hold with the library at the moment. I have learned it is easiest for me to read the ACOTAR series digitally versus physically.
My audiobook read: Ready Player One

I did it! I finally finished it. I have never struggled with audiobooks as much as I did with this one. Which is a shame because it was great. The narrator was perfect, and I am now a fan for life. He made me laugh and connect with the characters on a level I am wholly grateful for. The story was fun, if not quite my typical read. I can definitely see why my husband loves it so much. I am not on his level when it comes to gaming, so I didn’t understand some of the references. But it is a well written, funny, slightly terrifying (because I could so see this coming to pass), and entertaining read. I would highly recommend to lovers of classic television and video games.
My dirty read: Gifting Me to His Best Friend
Date read: MArch 5th, 2024- March 13th, 2024

I did mention that I am a fan of Katee Robert, right? And that I tend to read at least one smutty book a month? Okay, good. We gotta be on the same page if we are going to be friends. So, I went down the rabbit hole thanks to my coworker and friend Donovan. We had a conversation about all the different troupes and styles of romance out there and ended up talking about this series. Which made me realize, I have never read them! Now, this is not my favorite of her works, but it was good. I just couldn’t see this situation turning out well in real life, but otherwise it was good.
My buddy read: Where the Dark Stands Still
Date read: February 27th, 2024- March 25th, 2024
DNF (but I will probably try it again now that I have had time to think on it.)
There was nothing wrong with this story, I just lost interest about halfway through. Taylor finished it and told me that it has one of those bittersweet endings so now I am curious and may be tempted to pick it back up.
Towards the end of the month I ended up with a desire to be scared, to be horrified, disgusted, and sickened. So I picked up the above books, and have several more slotted for April. Try to guess what they are? I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Until the next page,
Dani
